"Dear Black Sheep" Documentary
Oneworld Hanxin College was honored to bring students from Class 2C of Broadcasting to the cinema to watch the documentary "Dear Black Sheep". Directed by Lin Ming-Chien, this film chronicles Bowie Tsang's four-year journey of discovery. Starting from the helplessness of a loved one's illness, the film leads viewers to reflect: health is more than just medical data; it is a wisdom and attitude for facing life's challenges. The documentary delves into the connection between body and mind, traveling around the world to showcase the diverse choices, lifestyles, and emotional responses people face when facing cancer. It reminds us that the body is not a cold machine, but a being in constant dialogue with life.
During the post-screening Q&A session, a student asked, "Why did you decide to make a documentary about cancer?" The director responded that cancer cells are not foreign viruses, but part of the body. Why do our own cells threaten our lives? Perhaps they are simply a reminder that something is wrong with our bodies. This film embodies his journey to find answers.
Bowie Tsang also shared that companionship isn't about healing, but about walking together. Life holds infinite possibilities, as long as we are willing to reconnect with our bodies and our lives.
This film viewing experience was more than just a cinematic experience; it was a deep conversation with life. The students were inspired by the images and conversations, and gained a deeper understanding of the meaning and power of documentary filmmaking. Learning is never limited to the classroom; it occurs through real-life experiences and insights.
